COMMISSIONS

"Commission a painting to create a special image for your home or office."

Looking for that special painting, but you just can't seem to find it?  Consider commissioning an original work of art. Commissioning a painting may be a way to get what you really want.  Make that special place in your home or office sparkle.  Maybe it's a gift for a special occasion, birthday, retirement or anniversary.  It could be a painting of a special view, vacation spot, or your old home place.  Work with me to create a visual art experience that can capture a place or image to make a lasting memory.

I prefer to be able to visit the location to be painted and take my own photos.  However, if you have good photos that give a good representation of the subject, a commission might still be possible.

I will only paint subjects I would normally paint, and do not do “paint to order” paintings, i.e. “I want a painting of a deer standing beside a lake  with a large oak tree in the background…etc.”  I only paint real places and must have the freedom of creativity to produce an original painting.  A simple description will suffice, i.e. “I want a painting of my grandmother's house in springtime" or "I want a fall landscape with Crowder's Mountain in the background."  If you want to compose the painting yourself then I’m probably not the artist for you.

Commission paintings usually require at least six months to schedule and complete depending upon how many I have to do and my show schedule.  I only like to do 2 to 3 each year as commissions prohibit me from painting what I want to paint otherwise.  A nonrefundable deposit of fifty-percent of the cost is required to be paid up front and the remainder upon delivery of the painting.  Commission paintings range from $960 for a 16" x 20" house portrait to $5000 or higher.  Charges depend upon the subject matter and complexity of the painting but generally, you can figure about $3 per square inch.  The fee for a painting is charged according to size.  In addition, I use a sliding fee scale - the larger the painting the less the cost per unit measure.

Commission Pricing Guide

Prices for commissioned paintings are located in the commissioned painting size/price list below.  The following chart is applicable to a landscape painting with one building and is for an unframed canvas.
I will also consider doing drawings or mixed media works on paper at a reduced cost.

   16 x 20” = $960
   18 x 24” = $1,190
   22 x 30” = $1,650
   24 x 36” = $2,160
   24 x 48” = $2,880
   30 x 40” = $3,000
   36 x 48” = $3,880

The price covers my traveling costs for all commissions within a 50-mile radius of my home in Cherryville, North Carolina.  Commissions undertaken beyond a 50-mile radius will involve additional costs for travel to be agreed on in advance.  Framing can be provided at additional costs.  Shipping is also additional.  For paintings delivered in North Carolina, please add sales tax.

Please get in touch with me for clarification on any of the aspects of commission outlined above or if you have further questions or require further details.
